About us

We’ve been inspired through our travels of the world to find beauty in small things… It was often when we were traveling the East coast of Aus in our van that the most memorable part of the day was something small and seemingly insignificant. Either a fumble of words or that one time we were laying defeated under a mango tree after trying for what felt like hours to knock JUST ONE out of the tree with the most creative way we could think of - Claire throwing shit up into the air hoping to knock one out and Grant on stand by to catch it before it hit the ground and exploded. We met a million green ants and approximately 0 Mangos. Mango tree - 1. Claire and Grant -0.

A small SUV rocked up shortly after we called it quits. Out hopped 4 ladies armed with duct tape and what looked like the remains of a tent that was involved in a hit and run. They strapped the poles together, the final piece to the huge stick was a net with a small blade on top. It was a DIY mango picker. After a few short minutes the ladies filled 3 ENTIRE woolies bags with mangos. Deconstructing the Mango Picker 3000, they piled back into their car and left. 

As for us, we sat scratching green ant bites while the small SUV disappear over the hill. We'd been schooled.

Now armed with the knowledge of what it took to get the goods, best believe we sprung into action to make our OWN Mango Picker 3000. We didn't have a net, but we did have poles - awning poles. Claire armed with some variation of the Mango Picker 3000, Grant successfully captured 2 falling fatty mangos. 

When life gives you lemons (or in our case mangoes) am I right? 

Chunky Checkers for us, is a brand that stands for smelling the roses. It's a reminder to have fun and not take life or yourself too seriously. Chunky Checkers is a friend, it's the first one in the room to crack a joke or offer up a smile. Traveling the way we do, it wasn't long before we developed a great appreciation for the planet we call home. We have met so many unbelievably cool people, people we are lucky enough to call our mates. Chunky Checkers is a way for us to spread the love and encourage adventure. A bit of fun goes a long way.
